Serendipity – it may just be my favorite word in the English language. In fact, in March of 2009, when I posted my very first blog post, it was about a serendipity. And, since I'm coming back to blogging, and it's sort of a new beginning, what better way to begin, then with another serendipity.
For quite some time, I've wanted to buy some antique wooden spools for my sewing room (to decorate, store embroidery thread, use in photos, etc.), and I found a really neat set on ebay. The auction was up during the graduation party, so the McStudly set his phone alarm and put in a bid for me.
We didn't win – so where did all of these wooden spools come from? You see, when McStudly came to give me the unhappy news, his mom asked what we were bidding on. We explained about the spools, and low and behold – SERENDIPITY!
When McStudly's mother was a little girl, she and her brother would visit her grandmother (McStudly's Great-Grandmother), who had this basket of spools for them to play with. They would color the spools with their crayons, play games with them, and even build things with them.
So, when her grandmother passed away, McStudly's mom kept the spools because they held so many fond memories for her. And, McStudly's mom was happy to pass them on to me. How awesome is that? Just knowing that McStudly's Great-Grandmother's hands were on these spools as she stitched quilts and clothes and pretty little things for her home and family, and that his mother's hands were on them too (to play with as a little girl, and to sew with her Grandmother as she got older) gives these little spools so much more heart and love for me than anything I could buy from strangers. So serendipitous!
And, the basket is just perfect to hold my lace and crocheted trim.
Now, in anticipation of my return to sewing and blogging, I've been collecting some pretty fabric. Sense we all love to look at pretty fabric, I thought I'd share some pictures of the fabric baskets I'm itching to dig into and stitch up some pretty things for our home.
"Old New Fabric Collection 30's" by Lecien and "30's Collection" by Astuko Matsuyama (love both of these lines, and a big thanks to Kerri over at Sew Deerly Loved for her great selection of Japanese prints)!
"Bake Sale" and "Polka Dot Stitches" by Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet – pretty much love everything that girl does (and though I'm not much of a "pattern" sewer – she has several that I want to make)!
"The Simple Life" and "Little Red Riding Hood" by Tasha Noel – adorable!
"Flower Sugar" prints in front and some Pam Kitty Morning cuties in back.
And, while I love bright and cheery, I also have a softer side, and love these "Durham Collection" fabrics by Brenda Riddle.
This basket of "Old New 30's" and Astuko Matsuyama "30's Collection" sits on my desk - so inspiring.
Funny for the day is so apropos:
Let the sewing begin!

P.S. Graduation day was perfect. It was a day full of good memories, laughs, and high fives (you did it, and between the McStudly and me – we did it), and a few "ugly cries" (so very grateful and happy that it happened, but terribly sad that it's over)!
Thanks again all of you lovely ladies - for all of your sweet comments and e-mails! Just for being so awesome, you get an extra funny
I so miss those days, don't you :0)!!
