Are you ready for some fun? I've been so excited about our new club that I thought July 1st was never going to get here!
Well, here it is Girls:
The Charming Girls' Quilt Club!
Many of us have tons of UFO's or WIP's we'd like to finish, and others are new to quilting, and want to delve into more projects. And, we want to provide a forum for us to do that, while enjoying the process with other quilters - and to provide a little incentive.
How The Club Will Work!
Each month, you'll submit photos of a project that you intend to complete that month on or before the 7th day of the month. On or before the last day of the month, you'll submit photos of the completed project.
Those who complete their projects will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $25.00 Gift Certifcates to our store.
Submitting Projects If You Have A Blog
If you are a blogger, then you will need to do a post on your blog with the Club logo and link by the 7th with a photo of your project (i.e. pattern, fabric). On or before the last day of the month, you will need to post a picture of your completed project with our Club logo and link. In each case, you'll need to post a comment here letting me know you've posted on your blog. We will post the link to your blog posts here, so that everyone can visit your blog and see your work as we go!
Submitting Projects If You Do Not Have A Blog
If you do not have a blog, then on or before the 7th of each month, you will need to e-mail a photo of your project (i.e. pattern, fabric), and tell me a little bit about what you'll be working on during the month. On or before the last day of the month, you'll need to e-mail a photo of your completed project, and tell me a little bit about doing the project. We'll post your photos and info here on our blog.
This month, I'll be making Prairie Sweets by Fig Tree Quilts.
I'm using Fig Tree fabrics from my stash (and a little of their new line, "Mill House Inn"). I'm trying a new applique technique, and hoping it goes well.
What Projects Qualify?
You can do any project -- a quilt, wall-hanging, bag, apron -- whatevery you want, just so long as fabric and sewing are involved. It can be applique, embroidery, or pieced. You can use any fabric or pattern you like, or you can design your own! For each project you submit and complete, you will receive one entry in the drawing. You can do as many projects as you can complete in a month. If you submit more entries than you complete, you will be entered only for the projects you complete each month.
The project must be finished completely to qualify for the drawing, but you can submit UFO's (i.e. this month, I intend to sew the borders on, to have this quilted, and to bind this quilt)! And, so long as you finish, you'll be entered in the drawing.
Update: Because many have to wait to get their quilts quilted, we are breaking "completion" for quilts into two parts. You'll receive one entry for finishing a quilt top. You will receive a second entry for having the quilt quilted and bound. You may finish the entire quilt and receive 2 entries in one month OR you can complete the top for one entry in one month and the quilting/binding for an entry in another month.
What Happens If I Don't Complete A Project? Nothing, except you won't be entered in the drawing that month (and you can enter that project in the next month, if you'd like).
Extra Entries In The Drawing!
Those who post at least 2 comments per month to the Quilt Club Forum to let us know how you're doing, to encourage or assist others with questions, etc. will receive an extra entry in the drawing.
To post a comment, just click on the:
on the upper right of your screen, and comment there. You can also click on the "Comment Feed" button to get e-mail notice when others post a comment, and follow our conversations!
You Will Be Tagged
Each month, we will be "tagging" our club members! We'll post a question about things like sharing your favorite quilting tip, recipes, or maybe just some personal things about you.
Those who comment in reply to the tag will receive an extra entry!
Sounds fun -- right? Well, that's not all!
Optional Club Activities
Approximately every other month, we'll be doing a special activity for club members only. As a club member, you can participate in these activities or opt out, but you must be a club member to participate.
These are the activities we have planned for the rest of 2009:
August 2009 -- Tea Towel & Recipe Exchange.
Everyone will make a tea towel (you can buy a towel and decorate it or even sew a tea towel yourself), and write out your favorite summer dessert recipe. You will mail your towel and recipe to another participating club member, and will receive a tea towel and recipe from a club member!
I designed these little dress tea towels years ago, and may just make one for our Tea Towel Exchange --this would be too cute in "Swell" or "Sweet" fabric!
October 2009 -- Quilt Along
I'm in the process of designing a quilt for everyone participating to make. I'll settle on a final design, and make the sample quilt in the next couple of months. The quilt along will be similar to the one we just finished.
December 2009 -- Secret Santa Ornament Exchange
Each participating member will make and mail a Christmas ornament of your choice, and receive an ornament from another participating member!
Sew many options to make here, like these:
cuties featured in American Patchwork & Quilting in 2006.
We will be posting more on these events as the time approaches, but promise plenty of notice!
How Do I Join The Fun?
To sign up for the club, simply post a comment here, letting me know you want to join.
I'm very excited about our new club, and look forward to the fun we'll all get to share in the months ahead!
Alright girls - post your comment, and start digging in that stash!
