and a day late, but very happy. It was SO good to learn more about what great girls you all are (knew it, just knew it) - and to see you all treat yourselves. Thanks so much to all of you for sharing - and making me smile!
Self care is truly the most UN-selfish, loving thing you can do for those you love. Part of the reason I've continued on this journey, "The Amore Adventure", is that it's made such a huge difference in the lives of those I love, especially my two favorite guys.
Trying to give when we're burned out, empty and exhausted - well, it's kind of like this - imagine that all of your money goes to paying your monthly bills - you have no cash left over to give to others. So, you donate to charity by charging it to your credit card every month. Eventually - you're going to drive yourself (and your family with ya) into some serious financial trouble.
While we're not likely to drive ourselves in debt financially to give, I think we do drive ourselves into debt emotionally and physically in order to take care of everyone else - but eventually, we pull ourselves and every one else down with us!
But, when we are well nourished, well rested, well cared for - we are so much more loving, more peaceful, more patient, more present and more calm - and that is the greatest gift we can really give to another person!
So ladies, I hope that you'll not only continue to treat yourselves, and take good care of yourselves, and also help to support the women in your lives by encouraging them to do it too!
And, our winners are, comments #38 and #94. So, Wendy at Why Not Quilt, you won the "Strawberry Fields" Fat Eighth Bundle, and Theresa Weaver (no blog), who won the "Flurry" Layer Cake. Please e-mail me your mailing addresses girls - and I'll get your packages right out to you! Congrats and enjoy!
Lighter Side - On the Male & Female Brain
Did ya know that we all (male and female) start out with a female brain?? Well, turns out that we do! "Until eight weeks old, every fetal brain looks female--female is nature's default gender setting. If you were to watch a female brain and a male brain developing via time-lapse photography, you would see their circuit diagrams being laid down according to the blueprint drafted by both genes and sex hormones. A huge testosterone surge beginning in the eighth week will turn this unisex brain male by killing off some cells in the communication centers and growing more cells in the sex and aggression centers. If the testosterone surge doesn't happen, the female brain continues to grow unperturbed. The fetal girl's brain cells sprout more connections in the communication centers and areas that process emotion."
Who knew? So now - when Studly has trouble connecting with or communicating his feelings - or when he starts going all alpha male - I don't get upset with him. I just say,
"It's alright babe, I know your brain was damaged by all that testosterone in utero!!!" HA HA!!
P.S. I asked Studly on our walk tonight if he was bummed about his brain being fried by all that testosterone! "No" says the alpha male! He's happy his brain has been fried! And - just between you and me - I am too. It's what makes Studly Studly - what gives the yang to my yin!
