I'm so excited to get this new quilt along started. I'm thinking it's going to be fun, really fun! And, we'll have the quilt tops finished before Thanksgiving, so we can finish them for Christmas gifts. Woo Hoo - are we on top of Christmas early this year or what?
This time, I'm literally going to be quilting along with all of you - well, I'll be working a week ahead of you. So, while I don't have a finished quilt to show you, I do have two versions from EQ6:
This version is colored with "Antique Fair" fabrics by Moda
and the second version is colored with "Storybook VII" by Windham.
The quilt is 73" x 73" - perfect size for a Studly don't ya think?
I also have two blocks to show you. Here is one block for Studly's quilt made in red, white, blue and tan wovens:
Here is the first block for my matching quilt in pastels:
Don't you just love these cute little blocks? And, I have to tell ya - they stitch together really quickly - not a lot of seams to match up (which happened quite by accident - and makes me super happy).
Now, this quilt along is in honor of my Studly, for whom I designed this quilt, and you could certainly make one for your Studly! This quilt would also be great for any guy in your life, or any girl, too! And, if you're up for some real fun - you can make 2 - like me, so you'll have matching quilts.
Fabric Requirements
16 Dark/Medium Fat Quarters (for Blocks, Flying Geese & Scrappy Binding)
10 Light/Print Fat Quarters (for Background of Blocks & Geese)
3 Yards Light/Plain Background Fabric
You'll have some extra left-over, but I like to leave room for extra options in a scrappy quilt, and in case there are any cutting errors.
Here is the fabric I'm using for Studly's Quilt:
and here is the fabric I'm using for The Mrs. Quilt:
So, I thought it would be fun to share a bit of "Studly" trivia with you on each post of this quilt along. And I'd love it if all of you wanted to follow along on your blogs, and share a bit of trivia on your posts about the recipient of your quilt.
This Week's Studly Trivia - How He Came To Be Known As Studly
When I started blogging in March 2009, I kept calling him my "Sweet Husband". After a couple of posts, he had to have a little conversation with me (being warm-hearted like I am and all):
Hubby: You've gotta stop calling me "Sweet" - it sounds too girly, too feminine.
Me: But you are sweet. Men can be sweet too, ya know. What do you want me to call you?
Hubby: Stud, call me Stud.
Me (laughing hysterically, probably thinking of the movie "Some Kind Of Wonderful" where Watts warns Keith "don't get too carried away there "Studly"): How about "Studly Husband?"
Hubby: Yeah, that'll work.
And, somewhere along the line, the "husband" got dropped. So, there you have it - that's how he got the name "Studly".
But, you all should know that he really is super, duper sa-weet! Irresistably sweet! And, don't tell him I told you this (wouldn't want him to get a big head or anything), but he's also irresistably Studly :)
Okay, who's up for some quilt along fun? I can't wait to see all of your fabric choices - and to read the first piece of trivia about your quilt's recipient.
Please leave a comment to let me know if you're joining us in the fun - and start digging in your stash. Or, you could do like Josie - and go do some damage fabric shopping (heart ya Josie :)!!
We also have a flickr group set up here (thank you Sweet Studly Husband) so that you can post your photos as we quilt along Here!
And here's a little bling for your blogs:

Ok, I'm in!
I have a bunch of black and white prints I earned from the Minnesota State Quilt Shop Hop 2 yrs ago. I wanted to use them for a quilt for hubby and I was waiting for the right pattern to come along!
Love it when the plan comes together!
Take care, Leslie

I call my husband Honeyman and have for most of the 17yrs we have been married! My oldest daughter used to call him Honeyman when she was little! hehe
I started because explaining to a little one the difference between a husband, a boyfriend, a fiance, it is just to much so their significant other was just their Honeyman (or Honeylady) and it just stuck! Now even when we are out I either call him Papa or Honeyman and he always calls me Mama (which is better than Wojciehowicz -Wo Ja Hoe Its- which is what my Mother always used to call me Barney Miller ya'll)!
Wait enough...I am off to the the fabric store(s)! See you soon!!

So following along! Even if I can't keep up with the sewing ... I'm so following along and will try ... as for recipient, hmmm? Maybe me? ;) Love and hugs and gratitude for your Studly knowing a good thing when he marries her. ... Mrs. Studly!

Oh both are so beautiful. I wish I could quilt along but I am stuck trying to finish two aprons which are very easy but a lot of gathering so just a bit tricky at times. They are for a friend who started them but needed help finishing them and I want to get them done by the 15th of October so she can give them at Christmas and I can start two quilts like yours for my grandson and granddaughter. Your patterns would be perfect so I'll have to hurry up and finish the aprons.

Love the blocks! Count me in , but at my own pace- we will be away for almost 2 weeks soon. I don't know yet who I will make this for-it will becoem clear when I pick through my stash. But I can tell you that I call my husband either Hun or Tone (for Tony) and have for almpost 30 years. If I call him Tony he knows he's in trouble!

What a great idea. Love the fabrics you've chosen to use. I bought some fabrics earlier this year to make my hubby a quilt and had another quilter tell me they are going to be hard to use in a quilt. :( bummed me out and kinda took the wind from my sails 'cause I was so excited to use it.
In another day or two when things slow down if it's ok I might see if I can still find it online and send you a picture of them to see what your opinions are for these. I would love to use them.

How fun - love those blocks, Kelly!

I will definitely try to make this along with you but am in the process of converting a very voluminous and heavy wedding gown into a Christening gown, a Christening coat and a boy's outfit. Even if I cannot make it while you are, I will definitely do it later. Great pattern!

I can't wait, those plaids are just up my alley, my Mr has never been given a quilt made by me so it will be extra special. I'm going shopping this week!
