It's funny - the journey of life, and where it takes us! And, reflecting on this year's quilt market - I am one girl who is grateful for the journey!
It all started about 9 to 10 Years Ago - (approximately - Carrie is right, we should label our quilts), I decided to take up the craft of quilting. No fancy tools, no pattern or book - just some fabric, thread, and scissors! Designed, pieced and quilted my first two quilts - "Love Is" and "Anyway"!
7 to 8 Years Ago - (approx) I met my quilting friend, Cira! She took me to visit my 1st quilt shop - where I fell in love with Moda fabric - "Anticipation" by Sandy Gervais to be exact! I also fell in love with a quilt designer by the name of Carrie Nelson - of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company!
And, made my very first quilt with Moda fabric (my 2nd from a pattern):
"Front Porch" by Carrie Nelson, with "Anticipation" fabric by Sandy Gervais!
Since then, I've made about 30 large quilts (at least 1/3 of which have been from Carrie's patterns)! And, I've made about 12 mini quilts (1/2 of those with Carrie's patterns)! And, you all know how I love making those "Tuffets"!
June 2008 - We opened our little quilt shop "Cotton Charm Quilts" - the dream being that this small online shop could serve as a base to create a gathering place for an online group of quilters to gather, and share their love fabric and quilting!
March 2009 - As soon as the shop was up and running, we started our blog, "Charming Chatter".
July 2009 - we started the "Charming Girls Quilt Club", where I've been so blessed to meet so many wonderful friends - and the dream of our online community of quilting friendships and inspiration really began to take shape!
Present Day - who would have ever dreamed that I'd be at quilt market, and be
hanging out with Carrie - talking with her about her lovely new quilt patterns! Carrie is "The Bomb" - really! She's sweet, witty, and funny - the kind of person that, even though you just met her - you feel like you've known her your whole life!
And OH MY GOSH - I WANT TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS - I got to chat with Carrie about her new fabric line "Fresh Palette"
for Henry Glass! YES - Carrie is designing fabric now - and I can't wait to get my hands on some of this
It was all so wonderful, so surreal - but, wait - there is MORE!
Guess who is holding the fabric cards so I can take a picture
it's our fellow "Charming Girl" Stef of Little Lady Patchwork ! Yes - for the very first time - I got to meet a Charming Girl in person - and, we got to hang out together, chat, visit booths, and have lunch at quilt market!
But, wait - there's more! YES MORE!!! So, here Stef and I are at Carrie's booth, chatting with her - and she takes us to see these sample quilts of her new pattern "Ashcombe":
First she shows us this one
and tells us that it was pieced and quilted by our very own Charming Girl - Darlene of Quilting Daze ! Is that quilt gorgeous or what!
You're not going to believe it, but there is more (seriously)! Then, Carrie points out the quilt next to it
and tells us that this one was pieced by another Charming Girl - Carol of Brown Quilts (and quilted by Darlene)! Can you believe it? And, isn't it just a gorgeous quilt, too?
Both Darlene and Carol are such sweet friends of mine - and here I am - looking at their beautiful projects - in person!
And, though I know that this quilting journey has only just begun - in a lot of ways, it feels like I've come full circle on the journey, too.
So, as Studly
and I dined outside in downtown Minneapolis, and reflected on this wonderful life journey that began with the simple desire to make a quilt - and that has resulted in so much joy, and so many wonderful friendships
I have to tell you - I felt SO VERY BLESSED!
And, it made me wonder about all of you Charming Girls out there - it made me want to hear about your quilting journeys!
So, you can do a post with photos telling us about your quilting journey, and then comment here with your link! Or, you can post a comment telling us about your quilting journey between now and Friday. We'll do a drawing to give away these:
a Fat Eighth Bundle of "Collections For A Cause: Hope" by Howard Marcus, and a Fat Eighth Bundle of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Fig Tree.
I can't wait to hear your stories - and I'm truly excited about the joy to come in all of our quilting journeys!
